Welcome to the website of St John with St Mary, Devizes. We are glad you have found us.
Here at St John’s you will find a church that will welcome you unconditionally, whoever you are. We are the town church of Devizes and are here for our townspeople and all visitors.
When you enter the ancient church of St John’s you will find yourself stepping into history and into a building where the very stones are soaked in prayer. Our Sunday morning services are Traditional Anglican, with Book of Common Prayer at 8am and a Choral Holy Communion service that some describe as “a Cathedral experience in a small town” at 10.30am.
As well as our traditional Sunday we are also developing groups focusing on:
- Contemplative prayer and meditation.
- A Forest Church connecting with God in creation.
- We are making connections with those around the country looking at ‘Re-Wilding Christianity’.
Our aim is to hold a ‘safe space’ where people can come to ask questions about spirituality, religion and the moral foundation of our culture – asking and sharing the big questions.
At St Mary’s, our sister church, we are currently working hard to transform the church building into a community and arts centre as well as a church. A place of creativity where the imagination can stretch its wings.
There is a lot happening. Come and visit and be part of our community.
