The Position of Musical Director and Organist – St John the Baptist, Devizes
We are seeking a Choir Director/Organist to build on the legacy of our longstanding, traditional Anglican adults’ and children’s choir in the beautiful Grade I listed St John’s Church. The choir rehearses on a Friday evening and sings at our Sunday morning Sung Eucharist in the Central Tradition plus major festivals and special services. A number of times over the year it sings at cathedral Eucharist and Evensong services around the country and is enthusiastically invited back.
The appointee must have the capacity and enthusiasm to work with and recruit children as well as adults, building on existing links with schools and looking to develop new ones.
We are in the process of acquiring a 3-manual pipe organ from Plymouth URC church which is about to close down (specification on request) as our original pipe organ was lost in a fire almost 20 years ago. The rector is keen that the choir should have an instrument that they deserve and a new project to get the organ built will commence in 2024. We currently have a 3-manual digital Makin. It is expected that the Musical Director and Choir will join the rest of the church in promoting the fund raising.
This post would suit someone who will enjoy working with and inspiring an enthusiastic, very able choir of fluent sight-readers, encouraging and participating in social events with them, and being proud to add this to their portfolio.
